Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has explained the rationale behind his decision to endorse his Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Zulum publicly presented Gubio with the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, signaling his support for the commissioner’s candidacy.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Zulum said the endorsement was aimed at sustaining the developmental momentum achieved under his administration.
The governor reflected on his own experience in public service, noting how his previous role as Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR) shaped his governance approach and contributed to improving the lives of citizens.
He described Gubio as a disciplined and courageous public servant with a strong commitment to service delivery. According to the statement, Gubio has demonstrated notable capacity in managing key infrastructure projects, particularly in housing development across both urban and rural communities, leading to improved living standards.
Zulum also highlighted Gubio’s contributions to rebuilding communities affected by insurgency. As Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, Gubio led efforts to restore essential services and public infrastructure in several conflict-affected areas.
The statement noted that his work in local government areas such as Bama, Konduga, Damasak, and Mafa has been widely recognized, particularly in the restoration of schools, healthcare facilities, and other critical infrastructure.
According to the governor, these achievements align with his administration’s broader vision of recovery, stability, and sustainable development, positioning Gubio as a suitable candidate to continue ongoing initiatives.
The endorsement, the statement added, reflects a strategic decision based on continuity, experience, and a commitment to maintaining progress in peacebuilding, resilience, and governance in Borno State.
