Tertiary institutions owned by the Katsina State Government have been thrown into paralysis following the commencement of a two-week warning strike by the Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) of tertiary institution workers in the state.
The union began the industrial action on today Monday, January 12, 2026, after the expiration of a deadline it gave the state government on December 29, 2025, which elapsed without the government meeting its demands.
According to the union, the Katsina State Government has failed to implement the 35 percent salary increase for academic staff and 25 percent for non-academic staff, as approved by the Federal Government.
The workers are also protesting the failure to conclude and implement the proper placement of staff on CONITSS 15 and other affected cadres, a situation they say has denied many workers their rightful promotions and career progression.
The strike affects major state-owned institutions, including Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma, Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal Studies, Daura and other tertiary institutions across Katsina State.
The JCF explained that the action is a two-week warning strike aimed at compelling the government to return to the negotiation table. The union also appealed to students and parents to understand their position and stand in solidarity with them.
Leaders of the unions including ASUP, NASU, SSANIP, COEASU and others who jointly signed the notice warned that if the government continues to show indifference to their demands, the workers would be forced to take further actions after the expiration of the two-week warning strike.
