From the Grassroots to the Forefront: Hon. Chief Felix Bilishan Tangwami

From the dusty paths of grassroots activism to the commanding heights of leadership in Adamawa State, Hon. Chief Felix Bilishan Tangwami’s story is one of resilience, service, and vision. A seasoned leader—tested and trusted—he stands tall as a man whose journey reflects the heartbeat of his people.

His rise began humbly, as a comrade in the Nurses Union, where he fought tirelessly for justice and fairness. That same spirit of advocacy propelled him into the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Adamawa Chapter, where he served with distinction as Public Relations Officer. His voice became a rallying cry for inclusiveness, and his conviction that charity begins at home laid the foundation for his political journey.

Chief Tangwami’s record of service is both rich and inspiring. He cut his teeth in politics as a Councillor in Demsa LGA, where his grassroots politics took root. From there, he ascended to the Adamawa State House of Assembly, and later became ALGON Chairman, a role that broadened his reach across local government councils. His leadership trajectory continued as he served as Commissioner three times, each tenure marked by tangible progress.

Most recently, as Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Tangwami left an indelible mark on Adamawa’s healthcare landscape. Under his stewardship, the state witnessed a strengthening of primary healthcare delivery, expansion of rural health infrastructure, and improved access to medical services. He championed public health campaigns, coordinated disease prevention initiatives, and ensured that underserved communities were not left behind. His tenure was a testament to his belief that human capital development begins with health and education.

Beyond healthcare, his vision has always been holistic. Over the past six years, Adamawa State has experienced a new trajectory of development under his supervision spanning infrastructure, rural-urban development, education, agriculture, and commerce. His agenda for the future is clear: expand infrastructure, reform civil service, strengthen agriculture, improve housing, and foster peace and unity among the diverse tribes of Adamawa.

Chief Tangwami’s leadership has not gone unnoticed. He was once nominated as a Minister under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, a recognition of his humanitarian approach to governance and immense contributions to Adamawa’s development. As Director General of Campaigns, he has built strong connections across all 21 local government areas, cementing his reputation as a true grassroots politician who knows every corner of the state.

Now, as he resigns from his commissioner role to fully pursue his 2027 gubernatorial ambition, Chief Tangwami’s journey continues. His story is not just about personal achievement it is about a vision for Adamawa, a future where inclusiveness, development, and unity define governance.
