A man in Pakistan has been charged with murder for allegedly killing the administrator of a community WhatsApp group after being removed from the chat, police confirmed on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, was fatally shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan and has a history of sectarian violence.
According to police documents and a local law enforcement official, a suspect named Ashfaq has been charged with Mushtaq’s murder.
Reports indicate that an argument between the two led Mushtaq to remove Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group.
Mushtaq’s brother, in a statement seen by AFP, claimed that both men had agreed to meet and settle their differences. However, he alleged that Ashfaq arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq.
The police statement suggests that Ashfaq acted out of anger over his removal from the group.
