The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a 22 year old man, Dauda Ahmed, in Kumo town of Akko Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when Dauda, a resident of Sarkin Yaki Quarters, was attacked by a group of young men who accused him of being involved in motorcycle theft.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the suspects — Babayo Musa aged 20 and Zaidu Sani aged 18 — were apprehended shortly after the attack. Two others identified as Sulaiman and Usama are still at large.
The victim was brutally attacked with machetes, sustaining deep cuts to the head and stomach. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Kumo but was confirmed dead on arrival.
The police have recovered two machetes used in the attack and are treating the case as criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. The suspects reportedly confessed to the assault during preliminary interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, has condemned the incident and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands. He urged the public to report suspicions to the police for proper investigation and legal action.
The case is currently being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
