In the intricate dance of Nigerian politics and ministerial slots, one name stood out in the power sector saga: Nasir Ahmad El-rufai slipped into the shadows. El-rufai was touted for the ministerial role of Power – a sector he knew like the back of his hands and prepared for. But politics played its wild card, and betrayal cut deep. The person he helped ascend to the presidency counted him out.

El-rufai had done the math. He had calculated the wins, pinpointed strategies for the general election, and envisioned a power sector transformation so impactful that it would be the trump card for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign. But it wasn’t to be.

They counted him out after he counted them to succeed, a political analyst quipped, highlighting the chess game of Nigerian politics. El-Rufai’s absence from the helm of power meant a vision left on the table – a vision of reliable electricity, thriving industries, and empowered citizens.

Sidelined, El-rufai, even though he never requested or desired for it, watched as a real promise and hope for redemption of our power sector turned to hopelessness.

The power sector struggles on, crippled by outages, unending national grid collapses, struggling homes, fleeing industries, and closing businesses.

El-Rufai’s robust strategy of renewable integration, private sector involvement, and anti-corruption measures added to his exceptional, tested and trusted administrative and managerial skills, could have changed the game, but it is a vision left unexplored and Tinubu’s one-term prophecy looms – do not vote for me if I come for re-election without giving you stable electricity for 4 years.

The El-rufaists Movement: Praying For A Comeback.

As El-rufaists, we are not just flooding the media with praise. We are praying for our leader to be back in the corridors of power, steering the ship, this time at the national level.
