Health Center WUNA, located in the Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is struggling to meet the healthcare needs of the community as the rainy season approaches. Under the management of Emejeaibetu Tahiru, the facility has suffered significant damage, with many buildings and essential infrastructure in a state of disrepair.
To secure much-needed renovations, Tahiru has reached out to the local area council and various organizations, including the Community Social Development Agency (CSDA). Although representatives from these organizations have inspected the site and expressed intentions to assist, there has been no follow-up or visible action taken to address the clinic’s deteriorating conditions health centre is facing an acute lack of resources, with no medication available, and essential health services such as antenatal care and immunize tion programs severely impacted. While the community received minimal intervention from humanitarian organizations, which provided a few items like cardboard for filing and some basic equipment, the overall situation remains critical.
Residents are growing increasingly frustrated. Mose Yakubu, a community member, voiced his concerns, stating, “It feels bad sometimes knowing there are no drugs available for our health needs. We are in urgent need of support to ensure our community can access proper healthcare.”
This urgent call for action highlights the necessity for both local and international support to prevent a healthcare crisis as the rainy season looms. The residents of WUNA hope that greater attention will be paid to the health centre’s needs to ensure the well-being of the community.
