The Federal Government has taken over the General Hospital in Kumo, Gombe State, upgrading it to a Federal Medical Centre.
This development makes the newly established Kumo Federal Medical Centre the second federal medical institution in the state, following the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, which was previously a medical centre before its elevation.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision is aimed at improving healthcare services in Gombe State and the Northeast, with a particular focus on reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
“The Kumo Federal Medical Centre will serve as a tertiary health hospital, contribute to the training of medical personnel, and enhance healthcare services in Gombe State and the Northeast generally,” the statement read.
