The Nigerian Army has confirmed the loss of four soldiers in the course of repelling a terrorist attack by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Ngamdu area, Borno.
According to a statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, spokesman of the army, terrorists launched an attack on military positions using Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and command-initiated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The army said troops on ground, supported by elements from the 29 Task Force Brigade, responded with fire and engaged the terrorists.
It said that intelligence reports indicate that the terrorists sustained casualties, with reports of 15 bodies moved by pushcarts for burial near Bula Wura, close to Wasaram.
Four soldiers were killed, and five others injured the statement reads.
The terrorists also destroyed Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks during the encounter.
A source told this newspaper that the terrorists planted IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR) to disrupt movement, which resulted in the closure of the road for hours.
The military engineers cleared three IED-laden points, and the route has been reopened to military and civilian traffic, the source added.
‘Troops received supplies, including MRAP tyres and ammunition, to continue operations.
‘The 29 Task Force Brigade has launched patrols and follow-up actions to prevent further attacks and maintain control of the area.’
