The Adamawa State Government has announced plans to construct a five-kilometre internal road network within Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, to ease transportation challenges and further strengthen educational development in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri disclosed this on Saturday while speaking at the combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremony of the University held in Yola.
The Governor said the project was part of his administration’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Federal Government and improving infrastructure in tertiary institutions across the state.
Modibbo Adama University, under the leadership of its Chancellor, Okuku Uwa Umoh Adiaka III, graduated a total of 5,707 students from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions during the ceremony held on Saturday, 31 January 2026. The graduands were awarded first degrees, master’s degrees, and diplomas across various disciplines.
Governor Fintiri attended the convocation alongside his Cross River State counterpart, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, as well as other distinguished personalities from within and outside the state.
Commending the University management for its achievements, Governor Fintiri described MAU as a source of pride to the government and people of Adamawa State, assuring that the institution would continue to receive support from his administration.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, noted that since its establishment in 1981, Modibbo Adama University has been contributing significantly to the intellectual and moral development of Nigerian youths.
He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and producing responsible future leaders.
Professor Umar also revealed that the University conferred honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent Nigerians. They are the National Security Adviser to the President, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu; the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and a former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Yari.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from various speakers, who praised the contributions of government and stakeholders to the growth of education and called for sustained commitment towards achieving shared developmental goals.
