The Adamawa State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in its fourth meeting for 2025, has approved a significant amendment to the 2025 budget amounting to N14 billion.
The amendment aims to fund priority projects in infrastructure, education, agriculture, health, and environmental sensitization across the state.
Briefing journalists after the council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, stated that the council’s approval does not constitute a supplementary budget but a realignment of the existing 2025 budget to accommodate the administration’s new priorities.
Among the key projects captured in the budget amendment are the construction of the Adamawa State International Conference Centre, upgrading the State College of Agricultural Science and Technology, and funding the state’s counterpart contribution to the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAMP).
Mr. James emphasized the importance of these developments in aligning the state’s budget with the current vision of the administration, stating: “This amendment ensures that the budget takes its proper shape and captures projects that were omitted earlier.”
In a related development, the council approved the award of contracts to consultants for both pre- and post-contract services for the remodelling and redevelopment of the staff quarters at the State Specialist Hospital, Yola.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Emmanuel Predimso highlighted that the amendment reallocates resources within the budget to fund essential new projects that the governor deems urgent for the state’s development.
“The amendment of N14 billion is very necessary for the execution of these critical projects,” he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, revealed the government’s recent procurement of CT scan machines for State Specialist Hospitals in Yola and Numan.
He noted that the Kidney Centre at the Specialist Hospital is now fully functional and offering free services, while the public laboratory has been equipped and the administrative complex refurbished.
He also disclosed plans to remodel the hospital’s staff quarters to accommodate healthcare professionals working in critical units such as emergency and intensive care.
Chief Tangwami urged the public to remain vigilant amidst rising temperatures, warning of the risks of heatstroke and meningitis.
He advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, and remain indoors where possible.
Addressing environmental concerns, Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, briefed the council on the impact of climate change in the state.
He noted that irregular rainfall and extreme temperatures affected 14 local government areas last year, with drought and flooding recorded across many communities.
He reveals that a committee has been set up to develop a climate response strategy within a week, involving experts from the Ministries of Health, Environment, Local Government, Water Resources, and Information.
He said the council resolved to launch an extensive public sensitization campaign in all 21 local government areas, following the 2025 NIMET weather predictions, which forecast delayed rainfall, drought, high ambient temperatures, pest outbreaks, and increased risk of meningitis.
