Another milestone achievement as I bagged a Master of Arts in English Language from the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, at this year’s memorable commencement (convocation) ceremony. Though tough, and rigorous, and full of hurdles, the journey has ended successfully with my receiving the award as the Best Graduating Master’s Degree Student in the AUN School of Arts and Sciences.
AUN has tremendously transformed me into a formidable and accomplished linguistics scholar, with some cutting-edge research articles published in reputable national and international journals. Today, I am an independent researcher in the areas of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), Media Communication, Health Communication, Critical Discourse Analysis, and Language Teaching Methodology, among others.
After graduating with B.A. Ed. (First Class Honours) in English from the University of Maiduguri, the thought of AUN never crossed my mind at first. But I thank God that I pursued an M.A. in English Language at this institution, which has thoroughly prepared me for linguistics scholarship. I have no regrets about enrolling in this prestigious university, blessed with versatile and experienced faculty members who guided me with all the necessary impetus and enriched my academic journey.
My profound appreciation goes to the faculty members in the Department of English Language and Literature: Dr. Richard Aworshiri Kamai who is my Thesis Supervisor, Dr. Ocheja Attabor, Dr. Moses Christian, Professor Brian Reed, Associate Professor Agatha Ada Ukata, and Professor Robert Tindol. I also extend my deep gratitude to the Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Adewale James, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Professor Bolade Agboola, Postgraduate Coordinator, Assistant Professor Suleiman Mohammed Gidado, and Executive Assistant School of Graduate Studies, Hajiya Hadiza Yusuf for their tremendous support.
I equally thank the administration of His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for sponsoring my studies at this great institution of academic excellence. Special thanks to the Honorable Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, State Director PDP Youth Mobilization, Hon. Mutari Hamidu Dogo, and my immediate colleagues in the Pen Profession for their support.
My heartfelt thanks go to my wife, Maisaratu Muhammad, my children, and my friends for their unwavering moral and emotional support. Their patience, prayers, and belief in me have been my pillar of strength.
