A devastating flood has struck Yobe State in Nigeria, leaving destruction and despair in its wake. The downpour, which began late Thursday night and continued into early Friday morning, resulted in significant flooding and structural collapses, particularly in neighbourhoods near waterways.
The areas most severely affected include Arikime, Ramin Kasa, Tandari, Ruga Fulani, Nahuta, Boriya, and Unguwar Kuwait.
Although no fatalities have been confirmed, many residents are suffering. One woman, who survived the collapse of her home, lamented that the flood displaced over 20,000 people and left many without essential resources such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
Nuhu Suleiman, a 25-year-old victim of the disaster, shared his heart-wrenching experience during an interview: “It’s like a war zone. We have never seen anything like this before. Our houses are gone, and we are left with nothing but the clothes on our backs. The magnitude of this disaster is so enormous, and we cannot manage it.”
The victims of Yobe State, who are struggling to cope with the aftermath of the flood, are calling on the government to provide quick support and relief to those affected.
Residents in these areas frequently experience flooding due to poor drainage systems, which cause rainwater to overflow into their homes. The victims have urged the government to address the root causes of the flooding to prevent such a disaster in the future.
