Prof Haruna Musa Dambatta Elected New Vice Chancellor of BUK

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has elected Professor Haruna Musa Dambatta as its new Vice Chancellor, following a keenly contested election held on campus on Tuesday.

Professor Dambatta emerged as the leading candidate among five contenders, securing a total of 853 votes.

His closest challengers were Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani, who garnered 367 votes, and Professor Muhammad Sani Gumel, who received 364 votes.

Other candidates included Professor Adamu Idris Tanko with 161 votes, and Professor Bashir Muhammad Fagge, who got 18 votes.

With this victory, Professor Dambatta will succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, who has served in the position since August 2020 as the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of the university.

The election result has been welcomed by members of the academic community and stakeholders who expressed optimism that Professor Dambatta’s leadership will usher in a new era of academic excellence, innovation, and infrastructural development in the institution.
