Gov Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, of Gombe state on Tuesday, paid a condolence visit to Billiri Local Government Area to commiserate with families of victims who lost their lives in a tragic Easter procession accident.
The incident claimed five lives and injured several others. At the palace of the Mai Tangle, Dr. Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba, Governor Inuwa expressed deep sympathy and announced a donation of N2 million to each of the five bereaved families, totaling N10 million. He also pledged to cover medical bills for the injured.
Describing the tragedy as heartbreaking, the Governor called for calm and urged security agencies and community leaders to draw lessons to prevent future occurrences. He emphasized the need for peace and warned against lawlessness.
Responding to an appeal from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Governor directed the police to review and expedite the release of those arrested following the incident.
The Mai Tangle, CAN leadership, and other stakeholders commended the Governor for his swift response and empathy. The Governor was accompanied by top government officials and political leaders.
