The University of Maiduguri on Saturday hosted the official launch and presentation of two books: Communication, Media and Islam in Nigeria: A Multidisciplinary Reader and Islam and Popular Culture in Nigeria, drawing scholars and stakeholders from within and outside Borno State.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.
The books were edited by Dr. Ibrahim Uba Yusuf and Dr. Abdulmutalib Ado Abubakar, both of the University of Maiduguri, alongside Abubakar Alhaji Bukar of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Published in 2026, the volumes contribute to the growing body of scholarship on the integration of communication, media and Islam in contemporary Nigerian society and beyond.
Delivering the guest lecture, Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), urged the continued use of the media to propagate and advocate the etiquette and teachings of Islam.
Also speaking at the event, the representative of the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, commended the authors and editors for producing what he described as a timely intellectual work.
