The All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for Member, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Demsa Constituency, Hon. James Iliya, has outlined his vision for the constituency, identifying youth empowerment, quality education, legislative reforms, and community development as key priorities ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a special edition of Issues and Events, Hon. Iliya recounted his journey from the private sector and the teaching profession into public service, where he served as Adamawa State Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development before his appointment as Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
He said his experience in both the education and public sectors had equipped him with the knowledge and leadership capacity needed to serve the people of Demsa Constituency effectively in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
According to the APC flag bearer, honesty, integrity, hard work, and resilience have remained the guiding principles throughout his public service, adding that he believes in making only commitments he is prepared to fulfil.
Hon. Iliya highlighted what he described as his contributions to community development, including mentoring students, supporting farmers with agricultural inputs, promoting entrepreneurship, assisting indigent students with educational support, and implementing youth empowerment initiatives during his tenure as commissioner.
He maintained that entrepreneurship remains a critical tool for reducing unemployment and improving livelihoods, noting that skills acquisition, digital training, and business support programmes introduced during his time in office had helped many young people become self-reliant.
On his legislative priorities, Hon. Iliya said he would pursue laws aimed at institutionalising youth empowerment and skills development to ensure the sustainability of such programmes beyond any particular administration.
He also pledged to promote legislation that would strengthen life skills education in schools, enhance legislative oversight, support infrastructure development, and improve policies affecting education, agriculture, and community development.
The APC standard-bearer further disclosed plans to undertake comprehensive needs assessments across the wards of Demsa Constituency through regular town hall engagements, explaining that the consultations would guide the identification and prioritisation of projects based on the needs of the people.
Hon. Iliya said effective representation requires listening to constituents, responding to their concerns, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every community.
