Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a sanitary pad distribution programme reaching 424 schools across Adamawa State, aimed at improving menstrual hygiene and supporting girls’ education.
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was unveiled at Government Girls Secondary School, Yola.
Hajiya Lami Fintiri stressed the importance of empowering young girls with access to menstrual hygiene products, noting that the intervention will enhance their dignity, health, and academic performance.
She pledged transportation support to ensure safe delivery of the pads to schools across local government areas and called for cooperation among principals and community leaders to guarantee smooth distribution.
Dr. Mary Paninga, Chairman of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, described the programme as “timely and transformative,” while Hajiya Fadimatu Bello Furo of the Post Primary Schools Management Board commended the effort for reducing absenteeism among female students.
Rukaiyyatu Chumaro, Principal of GGSS Yola, highlighted the impact on students from disadvantaged backgrounds, saying the initiative will boost self-esteem and educational outcomes.
The programme has been widely praised as a significant step in addressing menstrual hygiene challenges and advancing the welfare of the girl-child across Adamawa State.
